I, too, sing Portugal

I am the educated sister,
They send me to eat in the dining room,
When company comes,
And I do not laugh,
And do not eat well,
And I grow weak.

Today,
The sisters are in the kitchen
Nobody dares
Say to me,
“Eat in the kitchen,”
Now.

Besides,
They see how arrogant I am
And I´ll be scorned—

I, too, am Portugal.

Quando as visitas chegam,
E eu não rio,

as irmãs estão na cozinha,

Ninguém ousa dizer-me
“Vai comer para a cozinha,”
